“I ran a motorcycle group of mostly men trying to tell me what to do, how hard can this be?”
After a few years of running a pedi cab service on my own, I found it more work to try and find my clients than it should have been.
So I just said, screw it I'll start my own camp.
Well on my last day in 2016 I was cruisin by with my taxi and stopped at a bar for a smoke, turns out this other guy from New Zealand was at that bar and runs HIS own taxi service. So I said, hey, wanna start Taxi Camp? He said ya for sure. I wrote his email on my arm and split off to go get some more work done. Ya I totally lost that email (I mean I took a picture of my arm, I didn't lose my arm) and spent six damn months looking for it, I even joined the kiwi burn facebook page looking for that guy.
So I did all the due dilegence, I set up my camp layout, I applied for placement and our partners playa bike repair helped us facilitate shipping and general questions this newb has.
Met another co-captain on eplaya, go figure, that forum still works sometimes.
So now I hate a co-captain, a missing kiwi and my own grit and determination to make this thing work. The only problem...I am not a carpenter.
I had imagined two intake desks that can flat pack, and two wheel chair sized desks on each side of those as camp frontage. The front of the desks would read "TAXI" and "CAMP".
So every day after my hum drum corporate life, I would rip off the dress and step into my work jumpsuit and just like, try.
“I have absolutley no idea what I'm doing”
My tattoo artist and a call out to Reno Burners for a backyard painting party and we got the desks nice n spiffy with a great lettering effort to boot. Flat packed em and modgepodged a burn map to the top of em so we'd always have a map handy
I already had a shade kit from empire of dirt so I just ordered an add on kit. I love using my chop saw but when you price out one kit, it's really not a money saver to cut the poles yourself.
Then I built the bike racks to fold into a sort of a frame, so a bike on each side. They were NOT sturdy and broke like right away...I am not a carpennter
Fuck the bike racks, plus they encourage people to dump yellow bikes in em, so one use and I burned em.
